PEnGUIn Encoder MP4 0.97b1 was Released

Before beginning of encoding task, please remember to update binaries under help menu. The major improvement is subtitle support on Tiger and Leopard. For Asian user, please make sure there is no directory "/usr/local/share/mplayer/fonts". Because the default settings of mplayer bitmap fonts are not compatible with Asian fonts, users might have to remove them by following command.

sudo rm -r /usr/local/share/mplayer/fonts

By the way, the encoding speed of MP4_DIVX is also improved than previous version.

Please download according to the download section of right column.
Thanks!!

howdy, trying out your program today, with an .avi and a .srt. I tried it using Optimize (for ps3) and after a while it just hung. Then thought I'd try it with MP4_DIVX, it seemed to run, but then I got an "Application MP4Box has quit unexpectidly" and the mp4 it created was blank. Also did this with "Preview". Any thoughts? I've updated the binaries... thx for any help.

Hello...Bill...
Would you please tell me which kinds of files you used? rmvb, wmv, avi, mov or flc. Which operating system, hardware (PPC or Intel)? If you installed previous version of PEnGUIn Encoder, you can also try remove libfreetype first.

sudo rm -r /usr/local/lib/libfreetype.6.dylib

forgot, it is an .avi (tried 2 different ones)

Can you cut 1 min duration of avi by mpeg streampclip and mail me your clip?
You can also tell me your hardware specificities and version of operating system.

hmm, lost a post somehow. Intel Powerman on Leopard. I'm gonna try it out on my powerbook in a bit. I'll probably not get back to you with a clip until tomorrow. thanks.

Hi. First it's a nice tool! Good Job!

however I encounter problems when encoding from rmvb. I've tried 2 different rmvb files. Encoding process are smooth and reach 100%, but then later the MP4Box got malloc error (Sorry I forgot the exact error script, maybe i repost it tonight). I have tried using both 0.97b1 (have update binaries) and the previous version, still having same results. Can you suggest what I should do?

Thank you.

Hello..Danny...
For rmvb, do you install "get extra codes" under the help menu of PEnGUIn Encoder MP4?
By the way, I also need some info about your hardware specificities and version of operating system.
Thanks!!

Danny that error was the same I got going from .avi using mp4_divx setting. Last night I tried once more, but with Optimize-PS3, and it worked fine. The aspect ratio was off when I played it on the ps3, but I think that's because I needed to make a custom scale, because the video wasn't the same ratio as the default scale. So, I set that up to run while I'm at work.

If you still want, I can cut you a smaller clip to see if you can recreate the mp4box errors, probably on Saturday...

Hi la'fear, thanks for the advice, it works like a charm now! :D BTW i have few suggestions on the software:

(1) Can the video be encoded according to quality (i.e. q in ffmpeg)? Now it's all depends on bitrates, which is nice if the output size is the key concern, but not friendly while output quality is the key concern. This is my case :p

(2) Can the frame size/aspect be kept as same as source video by default?

Hello...
To Bill:
Please mail me a smaller clip, I need materials to test the compatibility of mencoder.

To Danny:
MP4_DIVX mode is a low quality option for speeder encoding, for higher quality, the encoding speed is almost equal to H264(OPTIMIZE mode). Therefore, for quality control, I suggest you encode in optimize mode and adjust the value of CRF and set bitrate to zero. In general condition, 20-24 of CRF is good enough to PSP(480x272), the smaller value means the better picture quality and the bigger file size. You can test your own values by preview mode.
About to keep the original ratio/aspect of video, you just uncheck the scale option.

Thanks!

Thanks la'fear! I am now trying the optimize mode and tuning around the crf to get optimal output. :D

Congrats for your software. Its really nice and fantastic.

Its the only one to convert RMVB for iPod and iPhone "for the rest of us". This GUI is perfect.

Please keep developing allways!

Thanks, LedStyle...
The development will keep going.
