just download this new version.
but the mp4 file can't sync into my iphone3Gs.
a sentance appears in itune after sync: "was not copied to this iPhone... because it cannot be played on this iPhone"
I've already selected H264 > iphone wifi 480x360 before converted the rmvb file.
Why? Please help.

La'fear said...

HI, there??
Can you play that rmvb file in itune? Btw, did you also try the other format, example: mov -> mp4, avi -> mp4? Thanks a lot!!

La'fear said...

HI! Just try it again!! I suggest to use profile "ipod" instead. And in itune, select the movie item and click menu "advanced" => "Create ipod or iphone version" => sync
I will adress this sync problem in later version. It looks like that Apple changed the way they inspect mp4 compatibility in newer itune version >_<

BTW, please also try the latest version, I just uploaded. To click menu "advanced" => "Create ipod or iphone version" is still needed.

Really amazing that we need to go at MacUpdate to find your latest incarnation of PEnGUIN Encoder (dated august 22, 2009), that's not the one you have available here.

Please update this, THE DEVELOPER SITE, and post the ultimate version [PEnGUIn Encoder MP4(Experiment), posted at http://www.exomanic.com/files/PEnGUIn Encoder MP4(Experiment).zip] that works amazingly well for RMVB conversion to AVI. I've followed your instructions there (update library in "PEnGUIn's Help MENU" first, just after the app was installed) and all worked fine.

Very well done! Thanks a lot!

HI! Arty~
Since the experiment version works well for Tiger, the latest 0.98b1 should also works as well. They have the same fixed patches.

OK LaFear. I suppose that version 0.98b1 should also works as well. But... ¿where it is posted? At your PEnGUIn Software Development blog [http://penguintool.blogspot.com/; root of this Comment section] the latest version available is PEnGUIn Encoder MP4 0.97b9. The same that we can find at MacUpdate (where we can find the "Experiment" version on a Reply from you at the User Review section) just right now.
Hope we could find the 0.98b1 version soon on this site.
Cheers.

HI~Arty~
Please look at the download section of right column in this blog "http://penguintool.blogspot.com". There are three links, the upper one is 0.98b1. Btw, the one in formal download of macupdate is 0.98b1 too. And, for your convenience. I also post the link here.

Sound Good !!!
is it latest than 0.98b1 version ???

The latest version removed divx_mp4 output, that's really bad for me.
Because H264_mp4 output takes A LOT of time to transcode. However, I don't mind to take double file size to exchange half of encoding time. So, could you consider to put divx_mp4 output function back in next release, please?

The fact that it can't encode MP4 that can be directly imported to iphone thru iTunes is the problem of your mencoder. I just confirmed that if I use exactly the same command line parameters of mencoder to encode the same file, one on windows, one on osx with the version in your v0.98b1, the file produced on mencoder/win can be imported to iphone, while the other on osx not. The importing is always on itunes 9 osx.

La'fear said...

To Jason:
The divx is still there, just change a name.

To Zhi:
Can you share the command line parameter or which software you use in windows. The one for 0.98b1 I used now is the same to handbrake. Thanks a lot!!

Hi Lafear, I was using WinMENC 0.81b, but replaced its built-in mplayer/mencoder to win32 svn23955 at [http://sourceforge.net/projects/mplayer-win32/files/MPlayer%20_%20MEncoder/revision%2029355/] (or the top result if you google 'mplayer svn win32']. It is mysterious that by using winmenc presets both its presets for psp (level13) and iphone (level30) with entirely diff params I can import the produced videos to my iphone 3G thru itunes9 on osx 10.6.1!! But neither works for the mencoder in your pkg. If you need then I can post the two sets of parameters given by winmenc.

La'fear said...

Yeah, please, the parameter would be very useful to me, thanks a lot!!

Lafear, I just locked down the root cause of this - you must not use the latest x264 nightly build. I used 20090601 of x264 and made a static build of mencoder on osx, and finally I can make MP4 videos which can be directly imported to my iphone!! If you need a copy of this just let me know.

La'fear said...

HI! Zhi~
You are awesome. That's right, the x264 I used is nightly build. Please gave me a copy of your build.
musicchamber@gmail.com
BTW, what's the mac os x you used to build the mencoder, tiger or leopard?
Thanks a lot!!

You can find my build here: [http://www.math.uiuc.edu/~zzheng4/mplayerpage.html]
